What is needed for using a Smart Card Reader on Purdue IT computers?

How to install a Smart Card Reader on a Purdue IT supported computer. 

Instructions

  1. 1. Verify that the Smart Card Reader has compatible Windows drivers before purchasing.
    1. In the past we have used IOGEAR Access Card Reader for Smart Card Reader for CAC, PIV and Banking Applications
       
  2. Connect the Smart Card Reader via USB.
     
  3. Make sure you have added the user to Purdue IT ActivIdentity ActivCard CAC 7.x collection in MECM under User collections. This will be advertised to the user in the Company Portal.   Be sure software is installed on the computer.
     
    1. Users might see “ActiveClientAgent– Card Reader Not Detected,” this can be ignored.

      Actve client agent warning: Care Reader Not Detected. Please check your card reader connection.
       
  4. Open CSDS ActivIdentity ActivCard CAC 7.1software to use the Card Reader.
     
  5. Insert CAC card into reader to verify ID.
