What to know about Assignments

It is important to connect with your instructor and read through all directions from your instructor prior to submitting assignments in your courses.

Assignment types:

  • The instructor of your course will determine which assignment type is permitted for your submission space. The instructor may choose: file or text submission, on paper submission, or observed in person.

  • Depending on the submission type, you may/may not be able to attach a file to the submission space in Brightspace.

Files allowed and submissions

  • Instructors can also choose if one file or unlimited files can be submitted for a file submission type.

  • Instructors can also choose whether one submission, the most recent submission, or all submissions are kept.

  • Read through the accepted file types by referencing to our "Error Submitting Assignment" article before submitting to ensure you submit a compatible file.

How to submit an Assignment

If your assignment requires Turnitin, refer to this article instead - "How to Submit an Assignment & View the Similarity Report".

  1. Navigate to Activities and select Assignments. You will see a list of assignment names, completion status, score, evaluation status, and due date (if there is one).

  1. Click the assignment name or the Not Submitted words in order to submit your assignment.

Error message?

Refer to this article "Error Submitting Assignment"  if you are receiving an “Error” message while trying to submit an assignment.

View Assignment Feedback

Instructors may leave you feedback on an assignment in writing, through a video, or just an audio clip. It is important to view, listen, or watch the feedback. Your instructor can see whether you have viewed/not viewed the feedback.

  1. Navigate to Activities and select Assignments. You will see a list of assignment names, completion status, score, evaluation status, and due date (if there is one).

  1. On the desired assignment, click on “Feedback: Unread”

  1. On the new window you will see the feedback (written, audio, or video) and a score at the beginning and then an attached file (if there is one). Your instructor may not add an attached file.

  • If the Grader of the assignment leaves audio or video feedback they will appear with a different icon in the Attached Files section of the Assignment Feedback.
