As an educational institution, Purdue University faculty and students are allowed to use many Autodesk products for free. 2024 Autodesk products use a floating license while the 2026 Autodesk products require a user to be named in the license. In both cases, the Autodesk products have to be used for educational purposes only. If the products are to be used for administrative purposes, a commercial license will need to be purchased.
Floating Network licenses
Purdue University has 3,000 floating licenses for multiple 2024 Autodesk products. The licenses expire on August 28, 2026. After that date, Autodesk will no longer issue the university floating licenses. 2024 Products that uses these floating licenses are usually configured ahead of time, so no special steps need to be taken in order to launch those products. They are typically installed in instructional labs.
Student licenses
As a student or faculty member, you can install most Autodesk products on up to 3 personal devices. To start the process, go to https://www.autodesk.com/education/edu-software/overview and sign in with your Purdue email address. You should be prompted for your Purdue username, password, and 2-factor credential. Once logged in, you can select the products that you wish to use and will be provided with download links for each product. When you sign up, you will receive a 1-year license for that product. You can manage your licenses via https://manage.autodesk.com/.
Educator licenses
As a Purdue educator, you can sign up for up for a classroom license for your students at https://www.autodesk.com/education/home#educators. Once a product is selected, you can invite, add, and remove students from your classroom license. Using this method puts you in control of your licenses so changes can be made more quickly then a centrally-managed license.
Named licenses
As stated above, 2026 Autodesk products require the use of a named-user license. These can be a student license that an individual student selected on their own, an educator license, or the university's named user licenses. The university currently has 3,000 named user licenses for the Autodesk products listed below. Other products can be added upon request and if available to educational customers. The drawback of these licenses is that only 3,000 users can be specified for each product and Purdue IT does not have a list of which students need which product. For this reason, we suggest instructors either request their own licenses for their students via the Autodesk educator page https://www.autodesk.com/education/home#educators. Otherwise, please submit a support ticket with a list of the names of your students, their email addresses, which Autodesk products you would like for them to have access to, and at which point in the semester they will need access. Please allow Purdue IT at least 24 hours to add the students to a specific product.
