UniTime - User is an Advisor but does not have the “Advisor” role in UniTime.

Overview

This article describes when a user should request assistance and who  a user should contact to obtain an “Advisor” role within UniTime .

Instructions

It is important to note that the “Advisor” role is automatically assigned to a person in UniTime when a student flows from Banner to UniTime and the person is listed as an advisor for the student.  If the person is not listed in Banner as advising any students for an academic session, the person will not have the advisor role in UniTime for that academic session.

Based on the above information, if a user is an Advisor but does not see the advisor role in UniTime the following may apply.

  1. If the user has just become an advisor, they may not have been assigned as an advisor to any students in Banner.  In this case, once they are assigned their first student, the role will be created in UniTime.  The advisor may need to log out and log back in after the student flows from Banner to UniTime to see their new “Advisor” role.
  2. If the user is assigned to students in Banner as their advisor and they are not in the “Advisor” role when they log in, they may have multiple roles within UniTime and the “Advisor” role is not their default role.  The user can change roles in UniTime by clicking the academic session in the upper right-hand corner of the page.  This will bring up a list of all roles assigned to the user within UniTime and allow them to select the appropriate role.  If the user does not see the “Advisor” role listed, they can use the “Purdue IT Request” button next to this article to create a request for help troubleshooting why the role is not appearing.
  3. If the user needs access to the “Advisor” role in UniTime but will not have students assigned to them in Banner, they can contact the Registrar’s Office (registrar@purdue.edu) and they can manually create an “Advisor” role for the user that does not require them to be assigned students in Banner.
