Overview
This article describes the situations in which an instructor assignment made in UniTime will not flow to Banner and from Banner to Brightspace and the steps that can be taken to remedy the problem.
Instructions
The important piece of information tying the instructor information in UniTime to the instructor information in Banner is the instructor’s PUID. If the instructor assignment to the section is not completed, the instructor assignment will not flow to Brightspace. There are two cases where an instructor’s information will not be added to their assigned section in Banner.
- If the instructor’s PUID is missing or incorrect in UniTime, the instructor information will not match between UniTime and Banner and Banner will not update the section the instructor is assigned to with the instructor’s information. Note: PUIDs in UniTime do not have any leading zeros. A correct PUID in UniTime has 8 digits and does not start with zero. To correct this issue:
- Go to the Courses -> Input Data -> Instructors page in UniTime
- Add or correct the instructor’s PUID.
- For each of the courses go to the Courses -> Banner -> Banner Offerings page and press the “Resend to Banner” button.
- Once all courses have been resent to Banner go to the Courses -> Banner -> Message Responses page and verify that Banner responded with a message stating it updated the instructor for the sections.
- If the instructor assignment still fails to flow to Banner, use the “Purdue IT Request” button next to this article to create a request for assistance with troubleshooting why the assignment is not flowing.
- If the instructor is very new to the University, their employment record may not exist in Banner so while the PUID entered in UniTime is correct and will flow from UniTime to Banner, Banner will not find the instructor in its records and will not add the instructor to the section. To correct this issue:
- Contact the Registrar’s office (registrar@purdue.edu) to confirm the instructor’s employee record exists in Banner.
- Once it is confirmed the instructor has an employee record in Banner, for each of the courses go to the Courses -> Banner -> Banner Offerings page and press the “Resend to Banner” button.
- Once all courses have been resent to Banner go to the Courses -> Banner -> Message Responses page and verify that Banner responded with a message stating it updated the instructor for the sections.
- If the instructor assignment still fails to flow to Banner, use the “Purdue IT Request” button next to this article to create a request for assistance with troubleshooting why the assignment is not flowing.
