PAE: How To Request Administrative Privileges on a Migrated Mac

Overview

For College of Agriculture faculty, staff, and students with managed and migrated Macs: These instructions will walk you through making yourself a temporary administrator on your Apple device to install software and make setting changes. This used to be called "Make Me Admin" in Self-Service. 

Instructions

If you are working on a Mac and need administrative privileges, follow these instructions. 

To make yourself a temporary administrator: 

  1. You will need to open the Privileges app. It should be in your dock but if it is not, you can do a Spotlight Search for "Privileges". 
  2. The app looks like this
  3.  This is what the Privileges app looks like on a MacBook, iMac, or MacMini
  4. Click the app
  5. When it opens you will see this window. Select "Request privileges"
  6. A new box will show up. Select the drop-down menu next to "Other"
  7. Select the reason you need administrative privileges and then click "Continue"
  8. You will get a quick pop-up that looks like this 
  9. The icon in your dock will change and look like this
  10. You are now an administrator for 20 minutes
