Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for allowing a user to connect to the ADDL Virtual Private Network (VPN), as well as allowing a remote connection to their PC.

Important Notes:

  • If the Purdue VPN is not installed, follow the instructions on how to install the VPN before proceeding.
  • (Mac only) The Windows App must be installed on the user's personal Mac before proceeding.
  • User must have permission to access the ADDL VPN. (Member of 00000051-VET_ts_user in Adaxes)
  • User must be added to the Remote Desktop Users group of the PC they are attempting to remote into.
  • Purdue Two-Factor Authentication (Microsoft Authenticator) is required for VPN services. 

Instructions

  1. Connect to the ADDL VPN
    Before proceeding, ensure the user has the necessary permissions and an active connection to the ADDL VPN.
    • Open the Cisco Secure Client application.
    • Enter the following address exactly (case-sensitive):
      webvpn.purdue.edu/ADDL-Users
       
  2. Authenticate
  • When prompted, have the user enter their credentials in the following format:
    • Username:  boilerad\[username]
    • Password: Purdue Career Account password
  • Follow the notification instructions from Microsoft Authenticator to complete the authentication.
     
  1. Remote Desktop Connection
  • Have the user open the Remote Desktop Connection App on their PC, or the Windows App if they are using a Mac.
  • (Mac only) Create a new PC within the Windows App.
  • Connect to the IP Address of the requested machine.
  • When prompted, have the user enter their credentials in the following format:
    • Username:  boilerad\[username]
    • Password: Purdue Career Account password
      • (Windows only) If the remote connection is trying to connect with the user's local account, have them select "More choices", then "Use a different account".

These steps should allow a user to remote into their ADDL computer from their personal home computer.
