This guide provides consultants with step-by-step instructions for configuring SAP GUI with Secure Login Client on Windows. It ensures that all connections to Purdue instances are established using SNC encryption.

Instructions

Required Software

  • Latest SAP GUI (v8.00 Patch Level 4 or later)
  • Latest Secure Login Client 3.0 (Patch Level 19 or later)

 

Install per Company Policy

Install SAP GUI and Secure Login Client per company policy

 

Setup the Secure Login Client

In the Secure Login Client, go to File – Options:

SNC Tab: Set the following:

  • Legacy Compatibility Mode – Not Selected
  • Smart Mode: Selected
  • Prefer Kerberos – Unchecked
  • Server Session Key Mode – Unchecked
  • Allow Manual Server Trust – Unchecked

Policy Group Tab: Set the following:

  1. Enter the following Host: https://sap-secure-login-service-for-sap-gui-gga33e6a.us21.sls.cloud.sap
  2. Click Refresh
  3. Set the Group to “SAP Secure Login Service for SAP GUI
  4. Click OK

To Authenticate to the Secure Login Client:

  1. Open the SAP Secure Login Client
  2. Double-Click on the “SAP-SECURE-LOGIN-SERVICE-FOR-SAP-GUI-*” profile to start the authentication process
  3. Complete the DUO authentication
  4. If authentication is successful, the background of the checkmark in the profile will turn yellow.

Authentication to the SAP Secure Login Client

Following a Windows login, users will be required to authenticate to the Secure Login Client during their first SAP connection.  The issued certificate from the Secure Login Client will remain valid for 12 hours or until the user logs off.

 

Ensure that the Default App in Windows is set to SAP GUI for Windows

  1. Microsoft has a guide to change the default app:  Change default programs in Windows 
  2. Search Windows for "Default Apps"
  3. Scroll down to "Choose defaults by file type"
  4. Find .sap in the list
  5. Set the default app for .sap to "SAP GUI for Windows"
  6. Click "Set Default" and close
