OriginPro Installation

Body

Purdue University's licensing agreement with OriginLab accommodates the installation and use of Origin software on any Purdue-owned computer, on computers owned by enrolled Purdue students, and on computers owned by faculty and staff affiliated with Purdue University.

Installation Instructions

If your system is maintained by Purdue IT, use the "support" webpage to request the Origin software to be installed on your system.
https://engineering.purdue.edu/support

The following instructions are for "self-supported" systems.

Download the latest Origin software from engineering.purdue.edu/PULS under Visualization software.

After downloading the software from PULS, unzip the file and double-click on the setup.exe file to start the installation.

After reading and accepting the License Agreement (if you still want to install it), select the "Install Product (requires serial number)" and click Next. Check/complete the User Name (enter your name) and Company Name (use "Purdue University") fields.

Use the following serial number: GF3S4-3089-7902990

You need to be connected to the Internet when using OriginPro software.  There is no longer an option to run the software when not connected to the Internet.  If you are off-campus, you need to use the Purdue VPN.

Now choose 32 or 64-bit, depending on your computer (any recent/decent hardware would be 64-bit). Specify the destination directory and click Next. It will probably need to create the directory. Once done, select features. The default should be fine. Select Next. Select/use "All users" unless you have some reason not to. The default program folder path should be fine. Select Next and Next again to start the installation/copying of files. It can take a while to install everything. Once the setup is complete. Click on Finish.

License Configuration

Launch Origin. Select the "User Files Folder" you want. The default is normally fine. Click OK when done. Use the following data to fill in the fields:

FLEXlm Server:  marina.ecn.purdue.edu
TCP/IP Port:    1707

Then click the Update button.

Your computer needs to be connected to the network in order to check out software licenses.  If you are off-campus, you also need to use the Purdue VPN.

A window should appear asserting that "License file successfully updated." You're fine from here, but if you want to be able to get updated files from Origin online, you need to register with Origin. Close the "Origin Central" window. Pull down the Help menu and click on the double arrow (pointing down) at the bottom of the menu. Select "Register online...". Follow the directions.
