Overview 

Through Purdue's Google partnership, Gemini Enterprise EDU is being made available to certain student populations. Future expansion to other groups will be announced. This article explains how to access Gemini using your Purdue account, how licensing works, how to request training, how to opt out, and where to find official learning resources. 


What Is Gemini Enterprise for Education?

Gemini Enterprise for Education is Google’s AI assistant available within Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides when accessed through a Purdue‑managed Google account.

Access is provided under Purdue’s institutional Google Workspace environment and is separate from personal Google or consumer Gemini accounts.


How to Access Google Gemini Using Your Purdue Account

  1. Go to https://gemini.google.com and select Sign in

  2. Enter your official CareerAccount@purdue.edu email address.
    • Note: You must use your Purdue career account email address, not an alias or alternate address.  
  3. When prompted to choose an account, select the Google Workspace account owned by Purdue (this is the enterprise‑licensed option).

  4. You will be redirected to the Purdue single sign‑on (SSO) page to complete authentication.

If you are signed into multiple Google accounts at the same time, Gemini may default to a personal account. Using a private or incognito browser window can help avoid this.


Understanding Licensing and Access

  • Gemini licenses are not assigned automatically.
  • A license is assigned only after you sign in to Gemini using your Purdue account.
  • If you never sign in, no license is assigned and no action is required.

Opting Out of Gemini Enterprise for Education

Use of Gemini Enterprise for Education is optional.

If you have never signed in

  • No license has been assigned
  • No action is required
  • Simply do not sign in to Gemini if you do not wish to use it

If you have already signed in

  • A Gemini license has been assigned
  • Access must be removed manually

To request opt‑out:


Personal vs. Purdue (Enterprise) Google Accounts

If you are not enabled for Gemini Enterprise or have opted out:

  • Gemini may prompt you to create or use a personal Google account
  • You may still see your @purdue.edu email associated with that personal account
  • This behavior is expected and does not indicate an error

Q: Do I have to sign up for the Gemini Pro free trial to complete the Google AI Professional Certificate Training?

No. While Gemini Pro offers advanced tools, they are not required to fulfill the certificate coursework. You can complete the training modules and labs with the free Gemini Enterprise EDU license, no credit card required. 

Q: Do I have to use Gemini?

No. Use of Gemini Enterprise for Education is optional. If you do not sign in, no license is assigned.

Q: Why does Gemini ask me to create a personal Google account?

This usually means you are not enabled for Purdue’s Gemini Enterprise environment or have opted out. This is expected behavior.

Q: Can Purdue IT help me write prompts or troubleshoot Gemini output?

No. Purdue IT provides access and licensing support but does not offer coaching or troubleshooting inside Gemini. Please use Google’s help resources for usage guidance.
