The Purdue ID card functions as your primary form of identification on campus, confirming your status as a member of the Purdue community. It provides secure building access for residence halls, academic buildings, and other restricted areas based on the permissions assigned to you. The card also links to meal plans and supports convenient transactions at dining locations across campus.

Each Purdue ID card contains an encrypted chip and a magnetic stripe on the back. The encrypted chip is used for secure transactions and access control, while the magstripe maintains compatibility with systems that require swipe functionality. In July 2027, Purdue ID Cards will no longer have magstripe technology on the card.

In addition to building access and dining, the Purdue ID card supports financial transactions at participating locations and is required for library services, including checking out materials.

The Purdue ID card works with Purdue’s Transact system for meal plans and the LenelS2 NetBox system for door access control. Embedded security technology helps prevent unauthorized use and ensures safe access to campus facilities.

Purdue is a mobile‑first campus for students who receive the Purdue Mobile ID as their primary credential. Faculty, staff, and visiting scholars also have the option to use the Mobile ID. Details for both credential types are available at www.purdue.edu/card.
