Body

How do I know how much storage I have remaining in OneDrive?

  1. Sign-in to https://onedrive.microsoft.com with your Purdue career account credentials.

  2. Note the storage meter at the bottom-left. This will show how much space your 250 GB quota has remaining:

    1. Be advised that this display takes a little time to update; if you recently deleted content, and cleared it from the recycle bin, this may take a few minutes to show an accurate value.

What to do if I’m over the quota?

  1. First, try to identify any content which you no longer need in OneDrive, and delete that. Check your OneDrive recycle bin; You can empty the contents to free up space.

    1. Note that content in the OneDrive recycle bin counts against your quota; Deleting that from the recycle bin moves it to the second stage recycle bin, where it can be restored up to 90 days post-deletion.

  2. This link may be helpful, as it displays the largest files in your OneDrive in descending order: https://purdue0-my.sharepoint.com/largestfiles

  3. If you have multiple files that are relied on by your department, it may make sense to consider requesting a departmental SharePoint site by emailing it@purdue.edu, or submitting a ticket at service.purdue.edu. These sites will provide 100 GB of storage and are more suited to sharing content with larger groups. If more storage is needed, it can also be purchased.

  4. If your content is largely research data, it may make more sense to seek another storage location. Please refer to our Data Storage Solutions Finder for more information.

  5. For more information regarding what data classifications acceptable in various storage locations, please consult the Acceptable Service Use guide.

  6. Please submit a ticket to us in the IT Department if we can assist further by mailing it@purdue.edu.

What happens if I am over the quota?

  1. You may see a popup in the bottom corner of your screen:

  2. Content will become read-only; You can open and view a document, but no changes will be saved.  Content may be saved locally but will not sync to OneDrive until the storage usage is lowered to within the quota limit. No new content may be added to OneDrive.
