Instructions for connecting a remote desktop using a Mac.

This article describes how to initiate a remote desktop connection using a Mac.

CSDS customers must have your office PC configured to use remote desktop.  Please contact your Technical Coordinator or Relationship Manager for details or to submit a request.

NOTE:  If you are using a Windows machine at home and need instructions for that, please visit "How do I work remotely from my personal (non-Purdue) computer and connect to my employee on-campus Desktop?".

To connect remotely to your office PC from a home Mac, follow these steps.

  1. If you're off campus, first connect your computer to Purdue's VPN service. Instructions can be found here: How do I connect to the Purdue VPN?
  2. If your Mac does not have the Remote Desktop Connection application installed, visit to download and install the latest version of the application. It's a free download.
  3. After installing, launch the 'Microsoft Remote Desktop' application.
  4. Click 'Add PC'

  8. Enter your Purdue password in the box below 'Username'.  Click Continue
  9. Answer 'Continue' to any questions about proceeding despite a non-trusted certificate.

NOTE:  The remote computer to which you're connecting needs to be powered on, and not in sleep or hibernate mode, in order to connect.

When you are done, you can disconnect from your session by clicking on the Windows button > Power Options > Disconnect.
