Purdue IT now allows users to request a temporary exemption from automatic reboots on Windows OS devices (desktops/laptops) due to app installs or Microsoft updates. Devices can be excluded for 14 consecutive days (via two 7 day requests). A third consecutive week requires manual review by Purdue IT. Purdue IT may still reboot systems to fix critical vulnerabilities, depending on justification provided in the Reboot Exception request.
To maintain security and performance, Purdue IT-managed Windows laptops receive automatic monthly updates. These updates are installed silently, but may require a system reboot to complete. If a reboot is required, users have 7 days to reboot their laptop before it's automatically rebooted. Notifications are received during the 7 day window to remind users of the pending reboot.
