Life Sciences - How do I map a shared drive on a Purdue-managed or personal Mac

Overview

These are the steps to be taken to map network shares on either a managed or personally owned Mac.

Prerequisites

 

*Life Sciences includes the following departments:  Ag / Vet/ ADDL

Purdue-managed device - The device must be either hard-wired to the domain, connected to PAL 3.0/CES, or connected to the VPN before starting.

Personal device – The device must be on PAL 3.0 or connected to the VPN before starting. To download the VPN you can click on How do I download, install, and connect to Cisco Secure Client on a personal device (Windows and Mac)?

Network locations – To find the list of network locations available to Life Sciences users, you can click on, What network drives can I access?. These will only be accessible if you have the proper permissions to access these paths.

Instructions

  1. Click on the Desktop so Finder becomes and option on the Menu Bar
  2. Either press cmd+k or select "GO" from the menu bar and select "Connect to Server..."

  3. Enter the path to the network drive (reference Prerequisite section)
  4. Click the '+' before hitting Connect to keep this network path saved as a favorite server

    • NOTE: If you map these network drives on a personal Mac, you will need to type in your Purdue Login after clicking Connect. Make sure to check the box next to "Remember this password in my keychain" so that you are not asked for your Purdue Login each time you access the network drive. Your username will need to start with "boilerad\" (i.e. - boilerad\joepublic)

  5. These will map by default to /Volumes
  6. If you do not see them on your Desktop, click on your Desktop, select "Finder" from the menu bar and select "Settings..."

  7. In the "General" tab check the box next to "Connected servers" to show these on your desktop.
