How do I download Remote HIS?

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Remote Hospital Information System (Remote HIS) on both Windows and Mac computers. Please note that you must be connected to the Purdue VPN to use Remote HIS.

If you do not have the Purdue VPN installed, follow these instructions before proceeding.

Instructions

For Windows PC:

  1. Connect to the Purdue VPN
    Ensure your connection to the Purdue VPN is active before continuing.
    Instructions on how to connect can be found here.

  2. Open a browser. 
    Launch your preferred browser and go to:
    https://vet-sremote02.vet.purdue.edu/rdweb
     
  3. Log in using your Purdue credentials:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password: Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  4. Download the Remote HIS file.
    Click on the “HIS 4.0” icon to download the .rdp file (Remote Desktop file).
     
  5. (Optional) Rename the .rdp file.  
    You may rename the file to Remote HIS.rdp and move it to a preferred location for easy access later.
     
  6. Run the file.
    Double-click the .rdp file you just downloaded.
     
  7. Connect to Remote HIS.
    *  Check the “Don’t ask me again” checkbox.
    *  Click Connect.
     
  8. Enter your credentials again.
    When prompted, enter:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password:  Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  9. Log into HIS.
    The HIS application should now launch, and you will be able to log in and use it.

For Mac:

  1. Connect to the Purdue VPN
    Ensure your connection to the Purdue VPN is active before continuing.  If needed, follow these instructions.
     
  2. Download Microsoft Remote Desktop.
    Open the App Store, search for Microsoft Remote Desktop, and download it to your Mac.
     
  3. Open a browser.
    Go to https://vet-sremote02.vet.purdue.edu/rdweb.
  4. Log in using your Purdue credentials:
    * Username: boilerad\[username]
    * Password: Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  5. Download the Remote HIS file.
    Click on the “HIS 4.0” icon to download the .rdp file.
     
  6. Import the .rdp file into Microsoft Remote Desktop.
    Open Microsoft Remote Desktop, click the “+” button to add a new connection, and import the .rdp file.
     
  7. Verify the remote computer.
    Review the remote computer information in Microsoft Remote Desktop and click Connect.
     
  8. Enter your credentials again.
    When prompted, enter:
    * Username: boilerad\[username]
    * Password: Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  9. Log into HIS.
    The HIS application should now launch, and you will be able to log in and use it.
     

Additional Information:

  • Exiting HIS: 
    To exit, either disconnect from the remote session or close the HIS application.
     
  • Session Timeout: 
    Inactivity for 15 minutes will result in a session disconnect, and unsaved work will be lost.  Be sure to save your progress regularly.
