How do I connect a scanner to HIS?

Overview

This guide explains how to connect a scanner to the Hospital Information System (HIS) for scanning and inputting forms and other documents.

Instructions

Step 1: Identify Your Scanner Software

  1. Click the bottom-right corner of your PC (click the carat ^ symbol) to find an “S” icon.
  2. If you don’t see this icon, your scanner software may not be running, which will prevent the scanner from working.
  3. Determine the icon type:
  • ​​​​​​​Blue circle with white S:  Follow the steps below for ScanSnap Manager.
  • White square with blue S: Follow the instructions for ScanSnap Home.
  1. Alternatively, you can search for “ScanSnap” on your PC to identify the software version.

ScanSnap Manager (Blue Circle Icon):

  1. Right-click the ScanSnap Manager icon and select Scan Button Settings….
  2. Uncheck Use Quick Menu.
  3. Click Detail, then Add or Remove….
  4. Click Add….
  5. In the Application Name field, enter “HIS”.
  6. Click Browse and navigate to This PC > C:/VTHIS Programs/Hospital System 4.0/.
  7. Select Hospital System (it will have the HIS icon).
  8. Click OK, then close the Add or Remove Application window.
  9. Select HIS from the drop-down menu.
  10.  Click Apply.

ScanSnap Home (White Square Icon):

  1. Right-click the ScanSnap Home icon and select The scan window
  2. Click the edit button (a pencil icon) in the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down to Application, click the drop-down menu, and select Add or Remove
  4. Click Add
  5. Click Browse, and navigate to This PC > C:/VTHIS Programs/Hospital System 4.0/.
  6. Select Hospital System (it will have the HIS icon).
  7. In the Display Name field, enter HIS.
  8. Click OK, then Close.
  9. Select HIS from the drop-down menu and click Yes when prompted.
  10.  Click Save.

Following these steps should successfully connect your scanner to the HIS system for document input.
