What is happening?
On June 9, 2025, Purdue IT will begin implementing a global display name change. This change will provide improved functionality with non-windows host authentication requirements in addition to providing standardization across all campuses and locations in the Purdue System (West Lafayette, Indianapolis, Purdue Fort Wayne, Purdue Northwest and Purdue Global). The display names order at every campus will follow the format of: First Name Middle Name/Initial Last Name (Jane R Doe or Jane Ray Doe) or First Name Last Name (Jane Doe) if the middle name is not currently in active directory.
Am I affected?
Students:
Student Display Names are already set up as First Middle/Initial Last and First Last, so there will be no change for students unless your Display Name does not already display in the listed formats.
Faculty/Staff:
Faculty/Staff Display Names will be changed to the format for First Middle/Initial Last and First Last.
What Actions will Faculty/Staff need to take?
An Office 365 Display Name can take several days to propagate through Microsoft's systems. The application that typically takes the longest to sync the Office 365 Display Name is Microsoft Teams, as it can take sometimes up to a week to update properly. Other applications typically update within a few days. To confirm your Office 365 Display Name has updated in Microsoft Teams, log into https://teams.microsoft.com/ in a browser and select your account in the top right, then press View your Profile. If the Display Name has not updated after 06/16/2025 in a browser, please try again in an alternate browser. If the display name still has not updated, please submit a ticket to Purdue IT.
Microsoft Teams - Desktop Application
If the Display Name has updated in the browser's version of Microsoft Teams and not the desktop version, please first log out and log back into Teams.
If the Display Name still has not updated and you have a Purdue-issued computer, please contact Purdue IT for assistance resetting Microsoft Teams so that your desktop support team can assist you.
If the Display Name still has not updated and you have a personal computer, please try repairing/reinstalling Microsoft Teams.
