How do I install and use the AgIT VPN Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (Windows)?

Overview

This article describes how to install and use the AgIT VPN Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client for Windows. 

Instructions

To install the Cisco client:

  1. In a web browser, visit https://webvpn.purdue.edu/Ag-General
     
  2. Enter a Purdue username and password and click 'Login'
     
  3. After logging in, a downloader will attempt to install the client automatically.  If the automatic installation fails, click 'OK'.
     
  4. Click the 'Download' button to bypass the Active X installation.
     
  5. Click 'AnyConnect VPN' to download the installer file
     
  6. Click the arrow next to the downloaded file and click 'Open'
     
  7. When the installer runs, click 'Next'
     
  8. Accept the license agreement and click 'Next'
     
  9. Click 'Install'
     
  10. If prompted for the installer to make changes to your system, select 'Yes'
     
  11. If prompted for due to previous version being in use, make sure 'Automatically close applications and attempt to restart setup is complete' is selected and click 'OK'
     
  12. When the installation is complete, click 'Finish'

When the installation is complete:

  1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Client from the 'Start' menu
     
  2. The client should be auto-configured.  Select either 'Purdue Traffic Only' (Default) or 'All Traffic'.  Click 'Connect'.
     
    • NOTE: If the client is not auto-configured, enter the following before clicking Connect:  "webvpn.purdue.edu/Ag-General". When selecting the All Traffic option, please be aware that access to your local network may be disabled (i.e. wireless printers, NAS units, etc.)
       
  3. Enter a Purdue username and BoilerKey password (2-factor - [password,push OR password,code OR PIN,push OR PIN,code]) and click 'OK'
     
  4. The following message will appear once the connection is successful
     
  5. To open up the client again, click the icon with the lock in the taskbar
     
  6. Click 'Disconnect' to end the session
