How do I find my MAC address in Mac OS X?

This article provides steps to find your MAC (Media Access Control) address from an Apple Macintosh with an operating system of X.

Instructions

How to find a wired MAC address

  1. Open 'System Preferences' and select 'Network'.
  2. From the 'Show' drop down list, select 'Built-in Ethernet'.
  3. Select the 'Ethernet Tab'.
  4. Your MAC Address is labeled 'Ethernet ID'.

How to find a wireless MAC address

  1. Open 'System Preferences' and select 'Network'.
  2. From the 'Show' drop down list, select 'Airport'.
  3. Your MAC Address is labeled 'Airport ID'.

Troubleshooting

If you are on Mac OS 10.2 or earlier, select the 'TCP/IP' tab instead of the 'Ethernet' tab. Your wired MAC Address will be labeled as 'Ethernet Address'.
