Overview
A description on how to deal with junk mail in Outlook.
Instructions
If you’re dealing with junk mail in Outlook, here are some useful tips:
- Change the Level of Protection:
- By default, the Junk Email Filter is turned on, and the protection level is set to “No Automatic Filtering.”
- You can adjust the protection level to catch more junk messages or make it less aggressive.
- Go to Home > Delete group > Junk > Junk E-mail Options.
- Choose the level of protection you want:
- Low: Filters obvious junk messages.
- High: Filters lots of junk but doesn’t restrict safe senders.
- Safe Lists Only: Most restrictive option—classifies non-safe sender messages as junk.
- No Automatic Filtering: Turns off automatic filtering but still uses your Blocked Senders List.
- Mark Legitimate Messages:
- If a message isn’t junk, drag it back to the Inbox or any folder.
- You can also mark it as not junk by clicking Home > Junk > Not Junk.
- Block Senders and Domains:
- In your web browser, navigate to outlook.live.com.
- Click the gear icon (Settings) and select Mail.
- Look for the Junk Email folder and click +Add under Blocked senders and domains to block specific addresses.
Remember to customize the sensitivity of the Outlook Junk Email Filter based on your preferences; Microsoft Support.
