How to Find Your Computer Name on Windows 11 Devices

Overview

There are times you may need to know your Computer Name, which is the name Purdue IT has assigned to your device so that we can properly track and manage it in our system. Most often this will be needed when performing troubleshooting with IT or when you need to remotely connect to your device. Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to find this information.

Instructions

To find your Computer Name, please perform the following steps on the device you need the name of.

  1. In the search bar next to the Start button, type "Computer Name" or "PC Name"
  2. Select "View Your PC Name" when it comes up
  3. You will see the 'Device Name' listed at the top of this window. Please see the image below for reference.

Type "Computer Name" in the search bar, select "View Your PC Name", and you will your Device Name in the top section of the window that comes up.

You are all done! You now have your device's full Computer Name.
NOTE: Be aware that the naming scheme will be different depending on your area.
