To set up a new phone for the Duo Mobile app, you must have had a previous phone or tablet set up to use the Duo Mobile app. The following instructions will work even if the old phone or tablet is no longer usable. If you do not have a previous phone or tablet set up to use the Duo Mobile app, please call the Purdue IT Service Desk at 765-494-4000 for assistance.
Acquiring Bypass Code
If the previous phone or tablet is still functioning and accessible, you may move on to the next step. If the previous device has been traded in, damaged, or is otherwise non-functional, you will need to generate a bypass code. Use the Boiler Bot by visiting boilerbot.purdue.edu and selecting Duo.

When asked if you have a device enrolled in Duo, select yes, as the previous device is still enrolled. You will need your PUID number, username/alias, and your date of birth ready to give to the bot. After providing the BoilerBot your PUID number, username/alias, and date of birth, the BoilerBot will email you a bypass code to your Purdue email address after a short processing period.
Accessing the Manage Devices page
Start by visiting a Purdue Web SSO-protected website such as mypurdue.purdue.edu or purdue.brightspace.com or one.purdue.edu, and then log in.
If you previously had the Duo Mobile App sent up on a phone or tablet, you will see the following page. If you still have the old device, do not approve the push notification. Select the “Other options” link from this page.

On the other options page, you will be given four choices. Select the “Manage devices” option.

Verifying your identity
After selecting “Manage devices” you will be asked to authenticate. If the previous phone or tablet is still functioning, select “Duo Push” and approve the push notification sent to your previous device. If the previous device is no longer functioning, then select “Bypass code” and enter the code sent to your email by the BoilerBot.
Replacing Old Device
After verifying your identity, you will see the Devices page. You should see your old phone or tablet listed. Underneath is a link that says “I have a new phone”.

This will give you instructions on how to set up your new device, and a link or a QR code will be generated. Tapping the link or scanning the QR code will set up the Duo Mobile App on the new device, and automatically replace the older device in the Duo Mobile system, so it will become the primary destination for Duo Mobile App push notifications.
