Questions concerning the use of "verified push" for Duo
When should I expect to see Duo Verified Push notifications?
This change will occur at 9 a.m. on March 21st, 2025.
Which services will require verification codes for push notifications?
At this time, verification codes will only be required when logging into applications utilizing Purdue Single-Sign On (SSO). This includes applications like SuccessFactors, MyPurdue, and Brightspace.
Can I change back to the regular push method?
No, this change is mandatory for all users logging into applications utilizing Purdue SSO.
Does this affect any of the other authentication methods available in Duo?
No, other authentication methods (i.e. hardware tokens, passkeys, bypass codes, and Duo Mobile app codes) will continue to be available and will not be affected by this change.
Will this change how I log into the VPN?
No, at this time, these changes do not apply to authentication methods for the VPNs.
Will this change affect how I log into my Microsoft 365 email or Teams?
No, you will continue to log into Microsoft applications using the Microsoft Authentication process.
For directions on how to set up Microsoft MFA, see the following article: How to set up Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Will I be able to enter the verification code from my Apple Watch?
Yes, you can still enter the verification code on your Apple Watch.
What version of the Duo Mobile application do I need to use to receive verification codes?
To use Duo Verified Push, a supported version of Duo Mobile must be installed and activated on your mobile device:
- Duo Mobile 4.16.0 or later on Android 8 or later.
- Duo Mobile 4.17.0 or later on iOS 13 or later.
Users with an older version of Duo Mobile will receive a Duo Push request without the code entry field. When you try to approve, then the login will fail, and you will see a message instructing you to update your software.
If you cannot update, please select another method or reach out to the IT Service Desk for assistance by emailing IT@purdue.edu. (See How to connect with Duo after using BoilerBot to generate a bypass code)
