How to Open SAP Login Files Automatically

Overview

Windows and SAP GUI both need to be configured to open .sap files automatically.

Instructions

Configure Windows to use SAP GUI as the Default Application

  1. Use the Seach feature in Windows to search for “Default Apps” and click on the Default Apps link that appears from the search.

  2. Scroll to the bottom and select “Choose defaults by file type”

  3. In the “Set defaults for file types” search box, type “.sap”.  The first result should show the currently set default application for SAP GUI.

  4. If the default application is not SAP GUI for Windows, click on the default app currently listed and search in the window for SAP GUI for Windows.  It should appear in the list.
  5. Close out the Default Apps window
     

Configure Browser to Always Open .SAP Files

  1. Click on the "Downloads" button in the browser (Note: Image is from Google Chrome)
  2. Find the snc.sap file and right-click on it
  3. Check "Always open files of this type"

Configure SAP GUI to Open .sap Files Automatically

  1. SAP Logon Pad Options and click on “Security” in the menu
  2. Click on “Security Configuration” and then click the “Open Security Configuration” button”

  3. Click the “Insert” button to add a new entry

  4. Enter the following settings and click “Insert”.  This will add the base rule to the Security Context Window:
    Type: File Extension
    Object: .sap

  5. In the Security Context Window, double-click on the following options in the rule and change to the following and then click “OK”:
    Access Type: Read, Execute
    Action: Allow
    State: Enabled

  6. Click OK again to close the new rule window.
     
  7. The new rule is now active.  When opening SAP GUI, the .sap file should download and automatically open the SAP instance.
