Overview
This article provides multiple step-by-step instructions for setting up a new, managed, iPad for use with Inventory Manager, Work Manager and MobileIron Go.
Instructions
NOTE: By logging on to a Purdue IT managed iPad, you agree to abide by Purdue University policies. Unauthorized access or misuse of computer resources or disclosure of sensitive information may result in disciplinary or legal action. Support for these mobile devices is limited to requirements for performing the user's job including stock setup, configuration, and security.
- Press the ‘Home’ button to wake up the mobile device. You will see a welcome screen.
- Press the ‘Home’ button again to open and unlock the device.

- You will then be prompted to select a language. Select ‘English’.

- Next, you will be prompted to choose your location. Select ‘United States’.

- A Quick Start screen will appear. At the bottom of the screen, select ‘Set Up Manually’.

- Next, you will see the following screen.

- A Remote Management screen will appear. Select ‘Next’ to proceed.

Enter the following:
‘Username’: <career account username> @BoilerAD.purdue.edu
‘Password’: <career account password>
Select ‘Next’.

Select ‘Enable Location Services’.
NOTE: This screen prompt may appear at any time after activation.

- A screen will appear for accessing your Dock with recent and favorite apps. Select ‘Continue’.

- A screen will appear for switching between apps. Select ‘Continue’.

- Next, a prompt will appear advising on how to edit the Home Screen. Select ‘Dismiss’.

- To connect to Wi-Fi, open the ‘Settings’ application.

- From the settings menu, select ‘Wi-Fi’.

- Select ‘PAL3.0’.

Enter your career account ‘Username’ and ‘Password’, and select ‘Join’.

Select ‘Trust’ to accept the network security certificate.

A prompt will appear directing you to set up a passcode. Press ‘Continue’.
NOTE: If you select later or the prompt disappears, go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Turn Passcode On.

Enter a passcode and select ‘Continue’.
NOTE: A passcode can be any combination of 4-6 characters.

You will be asked to confirm your new passcode. Re-enteryour passcode and select ‘Save’.

Enable Siri (Optional)
Siri is a built-in “intelligent assistant” that enables users to speak commands to operate the mobile device and its applications.
- To turn this feature on, open ‘Settings’.

- From the Settings menu, select ‘Siri & Search’.

- Swipe the ‘Press Home for Siri button’ to the right .
NOTE: Green indicates that the featured is turned on.

- A prompt will appear, select ‘Enable Siri’.

- Press and hold the ‘Home’ button to activate Siri. You may now ask Siri a question or ask Siri to perform a task such as sending an email or open an app.

Turn on Cellular Data
- To enable Cellular Data, open ‘Settings’.

- From the Settings menu, select ‘Cellular Data’.

- Swipe the ‘Cellular Data button’ to the right.
NOTE: Green indicates that the featured is turned on.

Turn off Wi-Fi Assist
- To turn off Wi-Fi Assist, open ‘Settings’.

- From the Settings menu, select ‘Cellular Data’.

- Navigate to the bottom of the Cellular Data attributes list until you see ‘Wi-Fi Assist’.
- Swipe the ‘Wi-Fi Assist button’ to the left.
NOTE: Green indicates that the featured is turned on. The button will be white when the feature is off.

Enable Talk to Text (Optional)
- To enable Talk to Text, open ‘Settings’.

- From the Settings menu, select ‘General'.

- Select ‘Accessibility’.

- Select ‘Speech’.

- Select ‘Typing Feedback’.

- Swipe the ‘Speak Auto-text button’ to the right.
NOTE: Green indicates that the featured is turned on.

Set up Text Replacement
- To set up Text Replacement, open the ‘Web@Work application’.

- A prompt will appear requesting to send notification on behalf of MobileIron Go. Select ‘Allow’.

- A message prompt will appear indicating that registration is required. Select ‘OK’ to continue.

- Press the ‘Home’ button to close the Web@Work application.
- Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open the ‘Dock’. You may also open the Doc by pressing the ‘Home’ button twice in quick succession. Close all open applications by swiping up on each open app.

- To close the dock and return, tap anywhere on the screen.

- Open the ‘Web@Work application’. Select the ‘bookmarks icon’ to the left of the URL entry box.

- Select the environment you would like to use.

- A login prompt will appear. Select ‘cancel’.

- Press and hold the URL. Select ‘Select All’.

- Select ‘Copy’ .

Press the ‘Home’ button to exit the application. Open ‘Settings’ .

From the Settings menu, select ‘General’.

Select ‘Keyboard’.

Select ‘Text Replacement’.

To add a new Text Replacement shortcut, select the ‘+’ in the upper right corner.

In the ‘Phrase’ text field, pressand hold. Select‘Paste'.

In the ‘Shortcut’ text field, enter the associated acronym. For example, devim, devwm, qawm, qaim, trnw, trnim… Select ‘Save’.

Repeat for each desired instance/app.
Special instructions for shared devices
Accessing Email
- To access email, open ‘Safari’.

In the ‘URL text field’, enter owa.purdue.edu. Select ‘Go’.

Enter your career account username and password. Select ‘sign in’.
Special instructions for assigned devices
Accessing Email
- To access email, open the ‘Email+’ application.

- A prompt will appear requesting permission for the app to send notifications. Select ‘Allow’.

- Enter your career account password.

- Select ‘Return’.
Once you have been successfully logged in, your inbox and email will be displayed.
Set up Touch ID (Optional)
Touch ID allows you to unlock your mobile device by placing your thumb or finger on the home button.
NOTE: This feature is only available for assigned devices.
- Open the ‘Settings’ application.

- From the left menu, select ‘Touch ID & Passcode’.

- Enter your ‘passcode’.

- To register your fingerprint to the device, select ‘Add a Fingerprint…’

- Follow the on-screen prompts to save your fingerprint.

- You may add up to five fingerprints. The passcode can always be used instead of Touch ID, and it is required under the following circumstances:
- The device has just been turned on or restarted
- The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours
- The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last 156 hours (six and a half days) and Touch ID has not unlocked the device in the last 4 hours
- The device has received a remote lock command
- After five unsuccessful attempts to match a fingerprint
- When setting up or enrolling new fingers with Touch ID
