Ag - Chrome intermittently closing throughout the day

Overview

Chrome unexpectedly closes on Purdue-managed Windows computers when a new version becomes available. This is due to an issue where Software Center attempts to update Chrome but the process does not finalize as it should. Installing the update through Software Center or Google Chrome manually fixes the issue.

Instructions

How to update Chrome via Software Center or Chrome

Software Center

  • Click on the Search bar or the Start menu at the bottom left of your desktop and search for Software Center. Click on Software Center to open it

  • Check the box next to AgIT Google Chrome and click on Install Selected at the bottom right of Software Center.
  • You will be moved to the Installation Status page. From here, you can monitor to see if the update is installed properly.
    • NOTE: If the update fails, please try installing the update through Google Chrome via the steps below

Google Chrome

  • At the top right of Chrome, click on More (three vertical dots)
  • Scroll down and place the mouse pointer on Help
  • Click on About Google Chrome
  • The update will start downloading and install automatically
