How do I connect to the Purdue VPN?

A virtual private network, or VPN, is used to allow authorized computers access to a central server remotely. Purdue students, staff, and faculty may use a VPN for several reasons: accessing course materials you might not otherwise be able to access from home.

Overview

A virtual private network, or VPN, is used to allow authorized computers access to a central server remotely. Purdue students, staff, and faculty may use a VPN for several reasons: accessing course materials you might not otherwise be able to access from home, mapping the Home Directory Drive, and other networking purposes. Instructions

Connecting to the VPN 

NOTE: You must be the administrator of your machine to install software. 

NOTE:  Purdue two-factor login is required when authenticating to Purdue's VPN services. 

  1. First you must download and install the Cisco Secure Client (formerly AnyConnect)

    • Visit webvpn.purdue.edu

    • Sign in using your Purdue Career Account alias for your username 

    • For your password, enter either:  

      • password and approve the notification on the Duo Mobile app. 

      • password,###### with the numbers after the comma being the 6-digit code from your Duo Mobile App 

      • password,push# if you have multiple devices added to your account, please use Password,push# where # is the order in which you added your devices (so enter: your Career Account password, the word push, and the number of the device you are authenticating on). For example. Password,push2 or Password,push3.

    • Select 'Download' and open the downloaded launch package. 

    • Proceed with the installation by accepting the license agreement and approving the installation. 

    •  Click 'Finish' to complete the installation of the necessary VPN add-ons. 

    • Download and Install 

  2. Once installed, launch Cisco Secure Client. 

  3. Enter the address 'webvpn.purdue.edu' and then click the 'Connect' button. 

  1. Enter your Purdue Career Account username

  2. For your password, enter either:  

    1. password and approve the notification on the Duo Mobile app. 

    2. password,###### with the numbers after the comma being the 6-digit code from your Duo Mobile App

    3. password,push# if you have multiple devices added to your account, please use Password,push# where # is the order in which you added your devices (so enter: your Career Account password, the word push, and the number of the device you are authenticating on).   3. Your device should now be connected.

Library Resources 

Unfortunately, due to our campus license agreements and the VPN IP address pool, you will not be able to access the library electronic resources when connecting through the campus VPN. Please use the methods outlined in https://www.lib.purdue.edu/help/access#vpn to access electronic resources off-campus. 

NOTE: You may have to disconnect your VPN if you are experiencing difficulties accessing electronic resources when off campus.
