Vet - How do I download Remote HIS?

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Remote Hospital Information System (Remote HIS) on both Windows and Mac computers.

Prerequisites

  1. Have permissions to log into the HIS system. If you do not have access, you can submit a access request using the Remote HIS Access Form.
  2. Open and connect to Cisco Secure Client on the webvpn.purdue.edu VPN profile. This app will be installed on managed devices. For personal devices, you can click on How do I download, install, and connect to Cisco Secure Client on a personal device (Windows and Mac)? 
  3. For Mac devices, install the Windows App. For Purdue devices, you can download this through SelfService+. For personal devices, you can download this through the Apple App Store.
  4. When accessing Remote HIS on campus, you will have to use PAL3.0 WiFi network.

Instructions

For Windows PC:

  1. Open a browser. 
    Launch your preferred browser and go to:
    https://vet-sremote02.vet.purdue.edu/rdweb
     
  2. Log in using your Purdue credentials:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password: Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  3. Download the desired Remote HIS file.
    Click on the “HIS 4.0” or "HIS JSS" icon to download the .rdp file (Remote Desktop file).
     
  4. (Optional) Rename the .rdp file.  
    You may rename the file to Remote HIS.rdp or Remote JSS.rdp and move it to a preferred location for easy access later.
     
  5. Run the file.
    Double-click the .rdp file you just downloaded.
     
  6. Connect to Remote HIS.
    *  Check the the appropriate checkboxes.
    *  Click Connect.
     
  7. Enter your credentials again.
    When prompted, enter:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password:  Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  8. Log into HIS.
    The HIS application should now launch, and you will be able to log in and use it.

For Mac:

  1. Open a browser. 
    Launch your preferred browser and go to:
    https://vet-sremote02.vet.purdue.edu/rdweb
     
  2. Log in using your Purdue credentials:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password: Your Purdue Career Account password.
     
  3. Download the desired Remote HIS file.
    Click on the “HIS 4.0” or "HIS JSS" icon to download the .rdp file (Remote Desktop file).
     
  4. (Optional) Rename the .rdp file.  
    You may rename the file to Remote HIS.rdp or Remote JSS.rdp and move it to a preferred location for easy access later.
     
  5. Move the file.
    Click and drag the .rdp file from the downloads folder within finder to the Windows App. This will create a saved device for future use, similar to the image below:

  1. Connect to Remote HIS.
    *  Double-Click Remote HIS in the Windows App.
    *  Click Connect.
     
  2. Enter your credentials again.
    When prompted, enter:
    *  Username:  boilerad\[username]
    *  Password:  Your Purdue Career Account password.

Opening RDP File

  1. Log into HIS.
    The HIS application should now launch, and you will be able to log in and use it.

Additional Information:

  • Exiting HIS: 
    To exit, either disconnect from the remote session or close the HIS application.
     
  • Session Timeout: 
    Inactivity for 15 minutes will result in a session disconnect, and unsaved work will be lost.  Be sure to save your progress regularly.
