Overview
Purdue IT employees who have been granted "KB Candidate" access to the Knowledge Base can also request "KB Contributor" or "Team Lead" status after completing this exercise which is designed to teach how to add articles to the knowledge base with the correct permissions and a consistent style.
Users with KB Candidate permissions can still add and edit their own articles, however, they must be approved by someone with Contributor or Publisher status before being published to either the internal or public knowledge bases.
To learn more about Knowledge Base roles and permissions see:
Details
To learn how to add knowledge to the Purdue IT Knowledge base, you are asked to recreate the attached article to this article (visible in the lower right sidebar)
To get started:
-
Open the Word Document found here: KB contributor access test.
Follow the instructions in the document to recreate the article "How to Make a Bowl of Cereal". The content of the attached article is randomly generated AI content and will be deleted after this exercise, but adding it to the knowledge base is intended to show you how to add images, links, and other details to help insure consistency in article creation.
- For this exercise, assume this article is intended for internal view by just your team in TDX (not public facing, or internal to all Purdue IT)
-
Follow the instructions found here: Knowledge Base: How to create a Knowledge Base Article for Purdue IT to create and submit the article.
For additional help, see:
-
After the article is created and ready for submission, hit the “Submit” button.
-
After you submit your article, please notify ITSMO that you have submitted an article by opening this form and adding your name to the Requestor Field and then click Save.
-
Someone from Purdue IT Service Management Office will review your article and and grant you KB Contributor access to the Knowledge Base. If you are unable to finish the article , you can save it in “Not Submitted” status and return to work on it later.
It is recommend that anyone creating their first article use the written instructions referenced in above, as it provides additional details about each step. However, below, we have included a Scribe screen grab of the process to help provide a visual walk-through of the initial article creation in this step (please note the screen shots are from the Sandbox version of the Purdue IT portal, but all steps are the same): Scribe: Creating a Knowledge Base Article for users with the KB Candidate role.
If you have questions, click the "Purdue IT Request" button to submit a question to the IT Service Management Office.
