Assistance with personal laptops and other hardware

Introduction

The Purdue IT Service Desk strives to provide exceptional support for all your technical needs related to work devices and systems. However, it dos not have the resources to repair personal laptops, computers, or other hardware resources.

Policy on personal hardware repairs

The Purdue IT Service Desk is committed to helping faculty, staff and students with your professional IT needs, but is not equipped to handle the repair or maintenance of personal laptops or other hardware devices.

For faculty/staff who need a repair of their Purdue  provided hardware, please contact the appropriate business or department IT staff.

Alternative Solutions

While Purdue IT cannot directly assist with personal laptops, you can explore the following alternatives:

  • Manufacturer Support: Many laptop manufacturers offer comprehensive support and repair services. Contacting the manufacturer can often provide you with the best solution for your personal device.

  • Local Repair Shops: There are numerous reputable local repair shops that specialize in personal laptop repairs. These professionals can offer the assistance you need to get your device back in working order.

  • Online Resources: For minor issues, online forums and tutorial websites can be immensely helpful. Websites like YouTube and tech forums often have step-by-step guides and troubleshooting tips.

Students in need of a computer for academic work can access campus computer labs; for more information, see Where can I find information about Purdue IT computer labs?.

Loaner laptops, chargers or other services

Purdue IT in West Lafayette does not have laptops or other hardware devices (such as chargers or peripherals) available as a loan to students, staff or faculty in the event their personal device is unavailable. Faculty and staff in need of an alternative work device should contact their business or departmental IT group for accommodation.

Purdue IT at Purdue Northwest and Purdue Fort Wayne does not provide device loans, but both campuses library system have device loans available for students. Learn more here:
