Install SAP GUI with Secure Login Client, available July 15, 2024
SAP GUI with Secure Client must be manually installed. Users should not have to uninstall the current SAP GUI installation.
Note: Users must be connected to WEBVPN2 to download and install software
Note: A restart is not required after install, but it is recommended.
- Go to the Company Portal (https://service.purdue.edu/TDClient/32/Purdue/KB/ArticleDet?ID=764) OR to Software Center (https://service.purdue.edu/TDClient/32/Purdue/KB/ArticleDet?ID=503)
- Look for “Central SAPgui 8.0 Patch 4 with Secure Login Client” and click it to open
Note: Use the search feature if not found
- Click “Install”
- Once installed, the button should change to “Uninstall” and the Secure Login Client should show in your Taskbar.
Note: You may need to show your applications in the taskbar by clicking the up arrow
- If the installation fails, try to install the application again. If the installation continues to fail, open a ticket with ESS by emailing it@purdue.edu with the pertinent information.
Authenticate to the SAP Secure Login Client
The first connection after Windows login will require the user to authenticate.
Note: User authentication is not needed again for 12 hours or until the user logs out of Windows
To authenticate before the login process:
- Open the SAP Secure Login Client
- Double-Click on the “profSLS” profile to start the authentication process
- Complete the DUO authentication
- Once authenticated, the checkbox background in the secure client profile should change from white to yellow.
- Users can now access SAP instance without further login until logging out of Windows or 12 hours pass.
Set SAP GUI for Windows as the Default App
Windows may need the default application set in order to open SAP GUI. To set the Default App:
- Go to Change default programs in Windows
- Your workstation’s OS should automatically select either Windows 11 or Windows 10
- Click on the “Open Default Apps” on the page
- Scroll down and click on “Choose defaults by file type”
- Find .sap (SAP GUI Shortcut) in the list
- Click on the app that is currently set and select “SAP GUI for Windows”
- Close out the Default Apps app. SAP GUI should now open normally.
