Overview
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that creates a secure and encrypted connection between your device and a remote server over the internet. This secure "tunnel" ensures that your online activities, such as browsing, transferring files, or accessing restricted resources, are private and protected from unauthorized access.
When you connect to a VPN, your internet traffic is routed through the VPN server, masking your IP address and making it appear as though you are accessing the internet from the server's location. This provides security, privacy, and the ability to bypass geographical restrictions.
Benefits of Using a VPN
- Enhanced Security: A VPN encrypts your data, protecting it, especially when using public Wi-Fi.
- Privacy: By hiding your IP address, a VPN may help protect your identity and browsing habits.
- Access to Restricted Resources: A VPN allow users to connect to resources that are restricted to specific networks or regions. Some services on the Purdue network may require a user to be connected to a VPN, or on-campus. A VPN can make an off-campus able to access these on-campus resources.
